Q: Wasn't the office of the Apostle done away with?
A: Who did away with
it? Where in the Word of God do you find scripture that tells us that
the office of the Apostle has been done away with. Tradition has taught
us that there were only twelve apostles. There are, however, 24 people
identified in the New Testament as apostles (this number includes the
original twelve). Please note that the following ones were called after
the death of Christ:
Matthias
(Acts1: 23-26), Paul and Barnabas (Acts 14:14), Silas and Timothy (I
Thess. 1:1-2; 6-7), James the Lord's brother (Gal. 1:19), Apollos (I
Cor. 4:6, 8-9) Andronicus and Junia (Rom. 16:7), Epaphroditus (your
messenger/apostle Phil. 2:25-26), Titus (II Cor. 8:23) and at least two
unnamed apostles (II Cor. 8:23)
